The rotating motion spreads the sample evenly over the sieve surface while the tapping motion helps dislodge particles that may be stuck in the mesh openings. This ensures efficient sieving of the material.
The retained material on each sieve is then weighed to determine the particle size distribution of the sample accurately and consistently.
