Cylindrical Metal Measures work on the principle of determining the bulk density of aggregates by filling a measure of known volume with the aggregate sample and weighing it.
The measure is filled with the aggregate sample either in loose or compacted condition as per the test requirement. The weight of the aggregate filling the measure is recorded.
The bulk density is calculated as the weight of the aggregate divided by the volume of the measure. The percentage of voids is then determined from the bulk density and the specific gravity of the aggregate.
