The Bitumen Extractor works on the principle of the centrifuge method for determining the bitumen content in bituminous paving mixtures.
A weighed sample of the bituminous mixture is placed in the extraction bowl of the apparatus. A suitable solvent is added to dissolve the bitumen content in the mixture.
The apparatus is then rotated at high speed to separate the bitumen solution from the mineral aggregates. The extracted aggregate is dried and weighed, and the bitumen content is calculated from the difference in weight before and after extraction.
