The Aggregate Impact Testing Machine works on the principle of subjecting a prepared aggregate sample to a controlled impact load and measuring the resistance offered by the aggregate to fracture.
A standard quantity of aggregate is placed in a cylindrical cup and compacted. A standard hammer is then allowed to fall freely through a fixed height, giving a specified number of blows to the sample.
The crushed aggregate is sieved and the percentage passing the specified sieve is calculated as the aggregate impact value, which indicates the resistance of the aggregate to sudden impact or shock.
